Drivers in east Suffolk have been left confused when they noticed a village road sign had been mysteriously changed.
The Rendlesham village road sign in Acer Road has been vandalised with black tape - with the sign now reading as 'Welcome to Pendleshan - please drive carefully'.
Over the weekend, villagers were bemused by the mindless vandalism.
A spokeswoman for Suffolk Highways said it is believed that the sign has been vadalised.
The spokeswoman added: "It appears someone has renamed the village with the creative positioning of some black tape.
"We will look into it and see to putting it right."
This is not the first time a misspelling of a place name in Suffolk - deliberate or not - has caused confusion.
Last year, a road sign in Kirton displayed the wrong spelling of Felixstowe.
The sign which was put in place in the village, just outside the seaside town, directed drivers to 'Flexistowe' rather than Felixstowe.
Suffolk Highways corrected the mistake and apologised for the incorrect spelling.
