An abnormal load movement set to close the A140 and follow a rolling roadblock along the A14 has been rescheduled for this weekend.
On Sunday, August 11, a planned abnormal load movement between Ipswich and Eye Synchronous Condenser Plant in Yaxley was postponed by haulier, Allelys, due to operational issues.
The transportation of the 356-tonne generator will now take place on Sunday (August 18).
It will depart from Ipswich Docks at around 6am with parking and weight limit restrictions along the route through town.
Derby Road, Tomline Road, and the St Matthews Street subway will also be closed.
Also, to allow the load to move around tight corners, the load will often be travelling on the opposite side of the road at times and traffic management will be in place to mitigate this issue.
Around 10am, the eastbound carriageway of the A14 will be temporarily held whilst the load travels the wrong way from the Whitehouse Interchange.
A rolling roadblock on the A14 eastbound will then be in place between approximately 10am to 10.30am.
Then, from approximately 11am to 6pm, the A140 is expected to be closed to allow a temporary overbridge at Brockford to be installed for the load to pass.
Drivers across Suffolk have been advised to allow extra time for journeys and warned of delays in the area.
To limit the impact on the travelling public, there may also be temporary stop points along the route.
Councillor Paul West, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for Ipswich, operational highways and flooding, said: "Our teams continue to support the moving of abnormal loads through the county, ensuring these are done safely and with minimum impact on residents.
"Thank you to all those who have worked hard on this complex operation to ensure it runs smoothly. Whilst the restrictions and road closures are in place, I encourage road users to avoid the area where possible to allow the load to travel through safely."
The transportation of a 164 tonne electrical transformer that is 71m in length will be confirmed at a later date.
