The White Hart is on the market with Chapmen Stickels. The Grade II listed building dates back to the 15th century, and used to serve the town as a public house before a successful planning application led it to be changed into a residential property in December 2018.
A series of extensive refurbishment works followed this change, and today The White Hart is a light and airy home with over 3,850 sq ft of accommodation and multiple additions.
The original front sections of the house are heavily timbered throughout, and comprise an entrance hall with access to a study with adjoining shower room and a cellar.
The rest of the ground-floor accommodation includes a generous, open-plan reception room – the former bar and restaurant area – which directly overlooks Hadleigh’s cricket ground and includes a raised dining area with a large brick fireplace.
There is also a central dining room and beyond this is a refitted kitchen/breakfast room with French doors to the garden. This room is a later addition, and has an adjoining utility and separate pantry.
The other extension is the pub’s former commercial kitchen, now a workshop/studio space. Chapman Stickels noted that, subject to a planning and listed building consent, this room could be demolished to create an additional 645 sq ft of garden.
Upstairs, a long landing provides access to the property’s six bedrooms and a family bathroom. The bedrooms come in varying sizes and feature exposed beams to the walls.
Outside, The White Hart’s pretty landscaped gardens stretch across the side and rear of the house and are made up of areas of shingle, paved dining and seating areas and hardstanding, divided by attractive raised herbaceous borders planted with a range of greenery.
To the north of the property is an area of lawn with a large timber shed which is defined by a shingle path and bordered by mature hedges.
Parking is provided via a detached weather-boarded garage/store with adjacent parking area.
Included in the sale of The White Hart are three holiday lets, which Chapman Stickels said were fully re-developed in 2020. These cottages provide an “attractive investment”, with details on the income generated by them available on request.
The first cottage has one bedroom, in addition to an open-plan kitchen/dining/sitting room and a shower room, while the other two cottages include an open-plan kitchen/dining/sitting room and two bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms.
Each cottage also has a rear garden with raised flower borders and beech hedging, and to their rear is an extensive parking area with access on to Gallows Hill.
