An east Suffolk man has been ordered by magistrates to pay out almost £3,000 for failing to provide a breathalyser test at the roadside.
Patrick Hunter-Jones, of The Street in Snape, near Saxmundham, appeared before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich.
The 74-year-old was driving in Martlesham Heath on April 24 last year, when he was required to give a specimen of breath for analysis, a court listing said.
According to court documents, Hunter-Jones failed to do so “without reasonable excuse”.
Hunter-Jones pleaded guilty to the offence and has been disqualified from driving for a period of 20 months.
He has also been fined £1,782 for the offence.
In addition to this, he will pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £450 and a surcharge of £713.
This brings the total Hunter-Jones will have to pay up to £2,945.
