A town centre property could be converted into 13 new flats if plans before a council are given the go-ahead.
A prior approval application for the conversion of 136-142 High Street in Newmarket into five one-bedroom flats, seven two-bedroom flats and one three-bedroom flat has been received by West Suffolk Council.
The site, made up of 136-138 High Street to the front, with 140 High Street at the back and 142 High Street at the western boundary, is located next to the White Hart hotel.
According to documents submitted to West Suffolk Council, 136-138 High Street and 142 High Street were most recently used as a solicitors' office, while 140 High Street appears to have been classed as a domestic premises since 1997.
The statement before the council reads: "Given its prominent location and historic features it is the client’s intention to preserve the building’s features where possible and ‘sympathetically’ upgrade the core elements in order to meet current regulations."
They said the overall aim of the development is for the creation of "high quality residential accommodation", the "retention of original features" where possible and to "ensure it is flood resistant and safe for its lifetime".
