Plans for flag poles advertising a new housing development have been refused after it was decided they would "result in a visually intrusive" addition to the area.
Developer Hills Residential sought permission to retain 10 flag poles and a totem sign outside of its St James Place site in East Bergholt in August.
However, planners at Babergh District Council said it would affect the character of the landscape.
A delegated report said: "This is considered to be excessive for the purposes of advertising a new development.
"The site sits between two National Landscapes and is on an edge of village location on one of the major routes into the village.
"The proposed signage is considered to negatively impact the character of the landscape."
It is understood they have already been removed.
An application form lodged with the council said the 5.5 metre signage is already in place.
East Bergholt Parish Council objected to the proposals, describing it as "unnecessary paraphernalia".
Hills Residential was given the go-ahead to build homes on the land in 2020.
