A man has been jailed after being arrested in west Suffolk a few hours after attacking four people in one night.
Jessie Slack, who is of no fixed address, punched his victims - leaving one with a fractured skull - in Cambridge's Market Passage in May.
He admitted assault causing grievous bodily harm without intent and three counts of assault by beating and was jailed for two years at Peterborough Crown Court on Thursday.
The court heard the altercation started after 32-year-old Slack got into an argument with two men at about 3.30am on May 11.
A member of the public intervened after Slack threw punches at two men.
He left Market Passage after the attack, but returned to the area a short while later and punched two other men in the face, knocking one of them unconscious.
Slack left the scene again, while nearby security staff tended to the victim who was later treated in hospital for a fractured skull and a traumatic brain injury.
The attacker was later identified by people at the scene and arrested at a property in Newmarket, west Suffolk, a few hours later.
He appeared in Peterborough Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday, four months after the attack.
DC Joanna Mackenzie, of Cambridgeshire police, said it was fortunate none of Slack's victims were more seriously injured.
She said: “Slack seemed intent on violence as he attacked people without any provocation in these senseless attacks.
“The victim of the grievous bodily harm suffered a fractured skull and a brain injury. Thankfully he has recovered but it has been a traumatic experience for him and his family.
“The injuries could have been even worse, with this incident bearing all the hallmarks of a one-punch killing. It is only by luck that this was not the case.”
