A Mid Suffolk District Council seat formerly held by a Green Party councillor has been won by the Conservative party.

The Mid Suffolk District Council election for the Thurston ward councillor took place on Tuesday, September 24. 

Three representatives ran in the election, Oscar Barrick-Cook for the Green Party, Nathan Curtis Hope for the Labour Party and Harry Richardson for the Conservative Party. 

Following the vote it was revealed that Mr Richardson had won, beating the Green candidate by 61 votes.

Mr Richardson received 579 votes while Mr Barrick-Cook received 518. Mr Hope received 79 votes.

On Tuesday, the Conservative Councillor's Association posted on X: "A massive congratulations to Cllr Harry Richardson on gaining Thurston, Mid Suffolk from the Green party tonight!" 

The election came after Austin Davies, who a Green councillor representing Thurston on Mid Suffolk District Council, stepped down from his role. 

Mr Davies was first elected in Thurston on February 2022. 

He stood as a Green Party representative and secured 845 votes.

In May 2023, he was re-elected after winning 1224 votes.
