The new offices of the East Anglian Daily Times and the Ipswich Star were officially opened in Ipswich on Tuesday, October 15, by a VIP guest as part of celebrations for the EADT's 150th anniversary.
The Lord Lieutenant, Clare, Countess of Euston, cut the ribbon to officially mark the opening of our new offices at Hyde Park House in Crown Street, Ipswich.
In her speech, she spoke about the importance of the EADT and Ipswich Star in their long history, supporting the community and holding power to account since 1874 and 1885 respectively.
Lady Clare was accompanied by former editor and Deputy Lieutenant, Terry Hunt, and was introduced to some of the papers' many customers and friends.
Alan Pease, Principal and CEO of Suffolk New College, presented editor Liz Nice with a delicious chocolate and vanilla 150th anniversary cake, made by the college's patisserie students.
Mr Pease – who recently celebrated one year of being in the top job at the College said: “The EADT (and its sister paper the Ipswich Star) provide a vital and crucial service by reporting on the stories that matter in our community.
“It was an honour to present Liz and her team with this wonderful cake.
“Well done to our students and Daniel Russell-Poole for creating this culinary masterpiece.
“And massive congratulations to the EADT. Here’s to the next 150 years and beyond.”
Guests at the opening enjoyed tasty canapes provided by Nick Phillips, owner and director of Funnells Kitchen in Lowestoft, and Amy Powell, their events manager.
Moo Moo Cakes in Cavendish provided special EADT and Ipswich Star cupcakes.
Liz said: "It's wonderful to be back in Ipswich at last with our lovely new office in the heart of the town. We're really looking forward to a new chapter and to the next 150 years serving Suffolk and Ipswich.
