A man has died following a crash involving three cars on a major carriageway.
Emergency services were called to the crash at just after 9.30 am to the northbound carriageway of the A12 at Kelvedon, Colchester.
The report shows three cars, a grey VW Polo, a black Mercedes E220 and a grey Mercedes CLA 200 were involved.
The driver of the VW Polo, a 58-year-old man died on the scene.
His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
The road was closed in both directions and was fully re-opened just after 3 pm.
The driver of the black Mercedes, a 21-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in police custody.
The police are currently treating crash as an ongoing investigation and are appealing for any witnesses of the incident to get in contact by calling: 101.
