A woman who recently celebrated her 100th birthday has shared her secret to living a glamorous life - stilettos and never leaving home without red lipstick.
Marjorie O'Hanlon, who lives at the Care UK Cedrus House in Bittern Crescent, Stowmarket, toasted her special milestone surrounded by her family and friends.
Born in Blackpool on October 7, 1924, Mrs O'Hanlon grew up with two brothers, Dick and Peter, and enjoyed ice skating, swimming and horse riding in her youth.
When World War II broke out, she wanted to join the Land Army, but her father would not allow her to.
Mrs O'Hanlon trained as an auxiliary nurse at a nursing home, and her free time enjoyed attending dances at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
She married her husband Bernard in 1944 after they met while working in an office at the Vickers Aircraft Factory.
Asked what her secrets to a long life is, she said: "Stilettoes, colour coordinated clothing, and never leaving home without red lipstick.”
She also said a "busy and active life, shopping, eating cake and a whiskey at night" have also helped her live a healthy lifestyle.
Mrs O'Hanlon and Bernard, who was known as Paddy to his friends and family, had two children together, Martin and Susan. They have two grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Deepa Reju, home manager at Cedrus House, said: “It was an honour to celebrate Marjorie’s birthday with her.
"She is a beloved resident at Cedrus House, and we all had a lovely time marking this tremendous milestone.
“Everything we do centres around supporting residents to live fulfilling lives, which is why we are always eager to mark special occasions. Marjorie’s 100th birthday was no exception, and it was a delight to hear her sound advice for living a long and glamorous life.”
