A couple behind a new town centre bar who "love vinyl and love music" say they want to offer "something a bit different" for residents.

Fred's Bar and Vinyl officially opened its doors in Old Fox Yard in Stowmarket on Wednesday, following a soft launch last weekend.

Themed around music and their love of vinyl, it is the brainchild of 24-year-old Fred Walters and Caitlin McKie, 22.

"There is a big gap for it in Stowmarket and we thought it was a great opportunity."

The bar is located in the former Pallet Bar premises, which closed in July.

Mr Walters, who previously worked at The Gladstone Arms in Combs Ford, said: "It is something I wanted to do for quite a while. With Pallet Bar closing in July it seemed like the perfect place for it."

The bar will serve a range of beers and alcohol, include craft beers, which Mr Walters has a "big passion" of.

Music will be playing all day, with song selection fitted to suit the vibe of how people are feeling.

The pair added: "We just want to do something a bit different."

Fred's Bar & Vinyl is one of a number of shops which is located in Old Fox Yard.

The historic venue dates back to the 16th century when it was known as The Fox Hotel.

It was converted into shops and offices in the 1980s.

More than £1.5million is being invested into the town as part of a regeneration project launched by Mid Suffolk District Council.

A raft of measures have been put forward, including offering support to start up businesses and pop-ups looking to launch their first store in Stowmarket.
