A family cottage on the edge of Tattingstone is for sale at a guide price of £900,000.
Orchard Cottage dates back to 1948 and has been renovated and extended by the current owners, Peter and Annette Shawler.
Felixstowe builders F W Rogers built the property, and the couple discovered that Mr Shawler’s grandfather Jimmy Read, a labourer, had a hand in constructing the home.
“After we moved in we looked through the deeds and discovered that F W Rogers built the original house,” said Mrs Shawler.
“We checked with Pete’s mother and she was able to confirm it. We had no idea. It was a wonderful surprise.
“Pete was very close to his grandfather and he was over the moon. It’s given us such a close connection to the house.”
The time has now come for Peter and Annette to say goodbye to the home, as the couple look to downsize.
“We’ve done a lot of work over the years and it will be very difficult to say goodbye,” Mrs Shawler said. “It’s been a fabulous place to live and we have some lovely memories.
