A 21-year-old has been jailed for three years after stabbing a man in his leg in Newmarket.

Before Ipswich Crown Court for sentencing was Sonnie Bishop-Browne, of Dick Perryman Court, Newmarket, who previously admitted wounding with intent.

Just before 6pm on April 10, four men including Bishop-Browne approached Market Square in hoods, the court heard.

The group fled and Bishop-Browne ran the same way before leaving on a moped.

The victim was taken to hospital and underwent five blood transfusions but did not suffer lasting injuries.

Judge Wilson described the attack as “cowardly and brutal” and said: “It is a common and all too sad feature of these courts that we see young men engaged in knife crime.

“Frequently and all too tragically it involves the loss of a life and a trail of destruction behind it.”

The court heard Bishop-Browne has a previous conviction for wounding and inflicting grievous bodily harm.
