An Ipswich live music venue with a capacity of 400 people is set to reopen this weekend under new ownership.

The Music Room in Wykes Bishops Street, off Duke Street, will once again open its doors on Saturday, December 7.

The venue will be under the management of Charlie Ross, Darren Smith and Aaron Buckland.

The trio have all worked at the venue in various job roles for many years and they decided to come together to take the venue to the "next level".

Events manager Mr Smith has been booking international touring bands in Ipswich for over 20 years and he said he is "very excited to continue brining bands and alternative club nights to the town".

He added: "My main passion is in heavy metal music but I have always been very open to booking all genres of music and giving a platform to new bands and DJs to perform and support bigger artists.

"The new team will be aiming to bring a variety of events to the town and create a great space for live music, DJs and artists to perform."

The Music Room will reopen with a special party on Saturday evening featuring live music, DJs and an alternative Christmas market.

The venue will also be ending the year with two tribute acts - Maiden Anglia (Iron Maiden) on Friday, December 20, and Elvis Returns (Elvis Presley) on Saturday, December 21.

The new managers also said that customers can expect some great changes in the new year.

The management announced that the venue would be taken over by them in late October after a "rollercoaster of a week".
