Suffolk's Arnold Allen scored a big stoppage win against Calvin Kattar at UFC Vegas 63 tonight - and called for a shot at the interim featherweight title belt.
Trimley St Martin's Allen moved to 10-0 in the UFC and 19-1 overall with a second round TKO over top tier foe Kattar (now 23-7 MMA, 7-5 UFC).
Allen used his superior movement and speed to largely dominate the first round, landing a few rapid flurries, before Kattar hurt his knee towards the end of the stanza.
He jumped towards the Suffolk southpaw looking to land a flying knee, but Allen evaded easily and Kattar's right knee popped as he landed.
The tough American came out for the second round, but crumbled to the canvas as soon as Allen landed a kick on his other leg in the opening seconds.
Though it clearly wasn't the way he wanted to have his hand raised, the victory marks Allen's 12th straight triumph and tenth consecutive win in the UFC.
With featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski set to challenge for the lightweight title next, Allen said he now wants a fight for the interim belt.
"I'm devastated," he said after the fight. "Volkanovski asked the guys to make a statement, and it's an injury TKO - I can't really ask for a title shot like that.
"Maybe give me the interim (title) job."
He added: "If Volkanovski's going to be out for a while, moving up in weight, give me the interim shot. I feel like I deserve it.
"I don't care who it's against, give me the title shot - let's go!"
With the win, Allen will claim Kattar's spot as the fifth-ranked featherweight in the world.
The only men ranked above him - and potential interim title foes - are Josh Emmett, Brian Ortega, Yair Rodriguez and former champion Max Holloway.
