Ipswich Town duo Wes Burns and Nathan Broadhead featured for Wales intheir 4-0 defeat to Slovakia in Trnava.

Tensions had started to rise following the Dragons' failure to qualify for Euro 2024, losing to Poland on penalties in the play-offs. It was only worsened when they were held to a goalless draw by Gibraltar in the Algarve, failing to beat a side who'd lost their 13 previous games by an aggregate score of 50-0.

Manager Rob Page remained adamant that his side are in transition and received the backing of Burns, who was dropped to the bench against Slovakia after starting against Gibraltar.

Broadhead came into the starting lineup alongside former Town striker Kieffer Moore, playing an hour before being brought off with his side 3-0 down. Burns was introduced a couple of minutes later but couldn't change the game, which finished as a 4-0 win for the hosts.

Following the game, Page apologised to the supporters and admitted: "If the powers that be decide I'm not the one to lead them forward then that's their decision."

Elsewhere, former loanee Jeremy Sarmiento started up front as Ecuador lost 1-0 to World Cup holders Argentina in Chicago. The 21-year-old played 78 minutes of the match but had just 17 touches, with Angel Di Maria's first-half strike deciding the game.

Manager Felix Sanchez Bas admitted that it was a mistake to start him as a striker, particularly in a game where his side had little position against one of the best national teams in the world.

La Tri will face friendlies against Bolivia and Honduras before the start of the Copa America, where they've been drawn in Group B alongside Jamaica, Mexico and Venezuela.

Ipswich goalkeeper Cieran Slicker was in action on Friday night, starting in goal for Scotland under-21's as they faced Austria. However, they were thrashed 5-0 in Wiener Neustadt, although Slicker made numerous impressive saves.

Finally, Axel Tuanzebe was left as an unused substitute for the DR Congo, who beat Togo 1-0 in CAF World Cup qualifying thanks to Meschack Elia's early strike.

Tuanzebe was handed his senior international debut at the end of last week, playing the full 90 minutes as the Leopards drew 1-1 against Senegal, but couldn't keep his place in the team.
