Lankester, who is under contract with the U's until next summer, is among four players to have been made available for transfer by manager Garry Monk.

The 24-year-old attacker moved to the Abbey Stadium from Ipswich in the summer of 2021, where he has since made over 100 appearances for the U's.

He featured 47 times in all competitions for Cambridge, scoring three goals as they finished 18th in the third tier during the 2023/24 season. He played with Town striker Gassan Ahadme, who spent last season on loan at the League One club.

Bury St Edmunds born, Lankester progressed through the Blues' academy set-up, playing 30 games and scoring three goals during his spell at Portman Road.

Hawkins is one of four players who Gillingham are willing to let go this summer as new manager Mark Bonner, formerly of Cambridge, looks to bring in own players at the Priestfield Stadium.

The 32-year-old forward signed under Neil Harris, joining from Mansfield Town in January 2023. He has since made just under 50 appearances for the Kent side.

He missed the first half of the 2023/24 campaign due to a plantar fascia injury, but he returned in December to score four goals in 25 games for the Gills as they finished 12th in League Two.

In total, Hawkins featured just 23 times for Town during his season at Portman Road, scoring one goal before he departed to join the Stags in the summer of 2021.
