Tommy Taylor continued his goalscoring form after netting twice as Ipswich Town U21s beat Barnsley 2-1 at Oakwell yesterday.
The young Blues went into this game off the back of their 2-2 draw with Cardiff City in their opening group game of the Premier League Cup.
It was a goalless first half in South Yorkshire but Taylor opened the scoring two minutes into the second half from the penalty spot, before the Tykes equalised two minutes later via Josiah Dyer.
John McGreal's side pushed for a winner which they found when Taylor scored in the 87th minute to claim all three points for Town.
The young forward has had an impressive start to the campaign with six goals in seven games. He has been at Town since the age of 10 and signed his first professional contract at the club in October last year.
Elsewhere, Town have signed former Spurs youngster Shakil Nicolaou, who was on trial earlier in the summer. The 16-year-old left winger joins on a scholarship and has won one cap for England at U15 level and also qualifies to play international football for Cyprus.
The young Blues switch their focus to cup action when they host Everton at Needham Market's Bloomfields next week.
