Ipswich Town U21s 1-2 Brentford: Match report and pics

John McGreal's side went into this game off their back of their 2-2 draw with Charlton last week. 

Jesse Nwabueze celebrates his opening goal against Brentford. (Image: Ross Halls) It was a quick fire start to the game as the Bees had the ball in the back of the net in the opening few minutes, but the flag was up for offside.

Despite the visitors' early pressure, it was the young Blues who took the lead in the fifth minute from their first opportunity when in-form Jesse Nwabueze held off his man before drilling the ball into the back of the net from just inside the area.

However, Brentford equalised just nine minutes later as Kyreece Lisbie, who is the son of former Town forward Kevin, headed past keeper Henry Gray from eight yards.

The second half was a cagey affair with chances being few and far between before Brentford scored the winner in the 81st minute when Lisbie crossed low for Iwan Morgan, who tapped home at the far post.

Overall, it was a fair result in the end as the young Blues weren't at their normal level, so this was a learning experience for the side, who were unable to break down the Brentford defence.

The young Blues suffered their first defeat in four league games and return to action when they travel to Bristol City on Monday next week. 

The senior men, of course, travel to Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
