Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane was impressed by Ipswich Town in their 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

The Irishman, who played for the Red Devils from 1993 to 2005 and managed the Blues from 2009 to 2011, returned to Portman Road as part of the Super Sunday television coverage.

He made national headlines when he confronted an angry fan during an ad break, but he was full of praise for Town when he was on air, highlighting the characteristics that helped them to secure a point against Ruben Amorim's men.

"Ipswich will be delighted," Keane said. "Their confidence would've been up after the win against Spurs.

"Six draws, they're still trying to find their feet, but I liked what I saw. There was enough energy, there was enough quality.

"Of course, you're always hoping for the teams that have just come up to be more of a goal threat - obviously the manager made substitutions. I think Ipswich will be delighted.

"You only get confindence from performances like that. In an ideal world, you want to win football matches, but to draw against Man United, to compete with them and show quality, they'll be delighted, Ipswich. They at least deserved a draw.

"It's not just being polite to them, you see it in the results and the performances.

"It's the first time I've seen them live, but I've seen games on the TV. It goes back to the first game against Liverpool, where they did look strong in the first half, but they lost their way.

"You looked at it and went, 'well, it's going to be a tough season for them'. They were a bit naive in their play and they've got players still adapting to the pace of the Premiership. They were up against Liverpool that day.

"Gradually, over the last month or two, they have got better. That's what you want for your team, that's what United's manager will want from his team in the next few months.

"Can I get improvement in the team and adapt to the Premiership? The demands, physically and mentally.

"You look at Ipswich today. Tactically they look decent, they look like they can deal with the ball and their fitness levels are pretty good.

"Put that in the mix and that's a good place to start."
